YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, WE HAVE ANSWERS
A There are many purebreds at the Shelter but we have no papers to support this. We do guarantee that if you put in the time, you will get unconditional love and loyalty from all our dogs/cats.
Q Are shelter dogs/cats healthy?
A We make every effort to be sure the pet you adopt is healthy. If a dog/cat comes in with obvious health problems, we work to bring them back to health. When you adopt a dog/cat from the Shelter, you get a certificate for a free examination by the Vet right next door to the Shelter.
A We ask a $150 peso (under US$15) donation at the time you adopt your new family member. Of course a larger donation will go a long way to help the animals. If the pet is under six months old and has not been spayed or neutered, we ask for a further deposit of $150 pesos which, is returned to you when you provide the Shelter with proof your pet has been spayed/neutered.
.
Q I want a purebred (insert your favorite breed), can I get one from the Shelter?
Q Are shelter dogs/cats "fixed"?
A The Shelter makes efforts to see all dogs & cats are "fixed" but it's not always the case. We do ask you agree to spay/neuter your pet when you adopt it and when you show us the Vet's certificate, we refund you the adoption fee.
Q Are there any costs to me to adopt a Shelter dog or cat?
Q What if it doesn't work out, can I bring the dog/cat back?
A We don't have a trial period so we ask you feel confident in your choice. If you're not sure about a particular dog, come over and take it for a walk (local to the Shelter) and see how you get along. Do this a couple of times and when you feel a bond forming, that's the time to adopt. If it's a cat that you want, come over and spend some time with your prospective adoptee in the cattery. Either way, you can only win as will your new family member.
Q What if the dog/cat needs medical care down the line?
A Our Vet has agreed to give a 50% discount on any services needed after adoption. You will get a card showing this at the time of adoption
Q Can I get a dog/cat for a couple of weeks to see how it works?
A The Shelter doesn't offer that option but there are times when we can use some help by someone fostering a dog for a while. Sometimes it's a space problem at the Shelter and sometimes the dog has special needs that have to be addressed before he/she can be adopted. This is a wonderful way to get to meet and help some of our dogs that might otherwise not have a chance for a home.
Q If you can't adopt a dog/cat, do you put it down ("to sleep")?
A We make every possible effort to find homes for all out animals and will never put a dog/cat down simply to make room for a more adoptable one. There are times however when due to some physical condition, always verified by our Vet, when the animal has no reasonable quality of life or is in great pain with little or no hope of recovery. In these situations we will do the most humane thing and release the animal to its higher power with the hope that someday wherever it is, it will find a family and be part of it.
A Yes, very much so. All dogs and cats over six months of age receive a spay or neuter and cats are tested for feline leukemia. Every animal coming into the Shelter is checked over by our Vet .We also do a bath and groom as well as flea shampoo when needed. And if there are any special needs of the animal, we tend to those also. You can rest assured that when you adopt from the Shelter, we have done everything possible to assure you receive a healthy pet. To complete the process, all you have to do it add the last ingredient, and that is a generous helping of love.
Q Do you do anything for the dogs and cats before they are ready for adoption?
