HAVE WE GOT A CAT FOR YOU
UPDATED 04/29/2011
After the pyramids and the kohl-painted eyes, almost nothing evokes more awe and mystery than the fascination ancient Egyptians had with cats.
Cats were not only the most popular pets in the Egyptian house, but their status rose to that of sacred animals and then on to the most esteemed deities like no other creature before them.
If you want a cat or kitten to worship, keep mice and other pests out of your pyramid, or simply enjoy their regal presence, come by the Shelter and check out the Cattery; you can have the pick of the litter (so to speak).
Many colors, breeds and temperaments are patiently waiting at the Shelter for you to give them their rightful place in your Palace. Each will give you a bounty of love and adoration in return.

Whatever your preference in cats, from white to black and all colors and markings in between, you will most likely find what you want in the Cattery in the main shelter.
Our selection ranges from some of the cutest and most playful kittens in town to the more mature and sedate ones looking for a soft lap and a heart to fill with love.
Just as with our dogs, we have a good success rate in placing the cats, so if you don't find your best match today, check back in a day or two and chances are you will soon find the perfect fit.
As with all our Shelter animals, our cats have been checked by the Vet and have been given a clean Bill of Health. We do ask that if it has not been done, you have your cat spayed or neutered; the Shelter provides you with a card giving you a 50% discount on the cost of the procedure.

When cats first come into the Shelter, they are immediately given blood tests. When the blood test is negative, (no Leukemia), then they are in isolation for a minimum 5 days to observe for signs of any OTHER diseases, problems,
Once there is no issue on this front, they are given the standard intake routine and are ready for your lap and to chase a few mice if any happen around your place.
Just as dogs, cats love to play with their humans and so the Shelter has volunteers that come and play with the kittens/cats so they don't feel left out of life.
Here Barb Hess plays with some of the cats.
You can read more about Barb on our Volunteers page.
